Key Responsibilities
1. Data Verification and Abstraction
- Extract and verify relevant data from medical records.
- Assign accurate codes for multispecialty outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, and inpatient hospital settings.
2. Medical Coding
- Efficiently code 12 charts per hour while maintaining accuracy.
- Adhere to medical coding practices and quality standards.
3. Guideline Updates
- Stay current with coding guidelines from AMA, AHA, and CMS.
- Implement updates in daily coding tasks.
4. Work Organization
- Manage and prioritize tasks to ensure compliance with client and regulatory guidelines.
- Meet tight deadlines efficiently.
5. Confidentiality and Compliance
- Strictly adhere to HIPAA policies and maintain the confidentiality of patient records.
Required Qualifications
1. Academic Background
- Degree in Life Sciences or Allied Medicine (e.g., B.Pharm, M.Pharm, Pharm.D, M.Sc, B.Sc).
2. Certification
- Certified by AAPC or AHIMA (e.g., CPC, CCS, CIC, COC).
3. Experience
- 0.6 to 2 years of experience in surgery medical coding.
4. Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
